A nine-year-old boy, one of two children hospitalized with serious burns following a fire at a residential building in the borough of Montreal North, remains in critical condition, a Montreal police spokesperson confirmed Saturday.
Two children — a nine-year-old and a 13-year-old boy — were taken to the hospital on Friday after they were seriously injured in a fire at a residential building in Montreal North.
Police say they have no updates on the other child who was sent to the hospital.
The fire started at around 4 p.m. in a three-storey building near the corner of Henri-Bourassa Boulevard and Narcisses Street, according to a spokesperson for the Montreal fire department.
The fire was later extinguished, and residents of neighbouring units have been allowed back inside.
The Montreal police service is taking over the investigation due to the victims’ serious injuries. Police say the fire is believed to have started on a kitchen stove and appears to be accidental in nature.
