Ottawa Police Service (OPS) announced in a release that ByWard Market and Downtown Rideau will see an increased police presence through the summer in an effort to combat crime and maintain social order.
According to the release, proactive patrols will be conducted in these areas by frontline officers and members of the Neighbourhood Resource Team. Partners from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, OC Transpo and the City of Ottawa’s By-law and Regulatory Services will also assist in these patrols.
Police say violations of the Liquor Licence and Control Act, criminal offences and aggressive panhandling will not be tolerated. The Community Safety Initiatives will be enforced each weekend throughout the summer to support a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.
