Heavy storms on Saturday left many residents of Montreal’s West Island with flooded homes and damaged possessions.
“I have never seen water like this,” said a lifelong resident of Pierrefonds. “It was coming down in buckets for an hour and a half.”
The water “was unstoppable,” said a Dollard-des-Ormeaux resident whose townhouse complex sustained severe damage.
Pierrefonds-Roxboro borough mayor Jim Beis said homes that had never experienced flooding before were affected this time around. “There were entire streets with four feet of water,” he said. “These are things we have never seen before at this magnitude.”
