Fever vs. Mercury: The matchup
The Fever fell to 9-7 on the season with consecutive losses to the Atlanta Dream, first in a home shootout (108-101) last Thursday and then a double-digit loss in Atlanta (113-96) on Saturday. Clark put up 26 points on both occasions, but team defense was an issue in both contests as Indiana allowed 100-plus points for the fifth and sixth time in 16 games. The Dream’s balanced scoring, with all five starters finishing in double figures in both losses, was a difference-maker as the Fever struggled for scoring outside the triple threat of Clark (26 points), Kelsey Mitchell (16) and Aliyah Boston (13).
The Mercury are 5-12 on the season and enter Monday night’s matchup as 7.5-point underdogs after snapping a four-game losing streak with a win over the Seattle Storm (93-73) on Saturday. Five Phoenix players hit double figures in the scoring column, sparked by a big-time performance off the bench by Aleriane Ayayi, who logged a double-double with 18 points on 4-of-7 shooting with 10 rebounds in just 22 minutes.
