Peel police say three members of the force have been disciplined and denied promotions after sharing or receiving confidential information related to its promotional process.
Peel Regional Police communications advisor Matt Carty did not share specifics, but told CBC Toronto in a statement that police acted on a complaint “that the integrity of the process was compromised by a few participants.”
The investigation found no evidence to suggest a superintendent or senior officer improperly disclosed the information, he said.
The incident was assessed based on the Community Safety and Policing Act and addressed through internal disciplinary actions, Carty said.
Based on the investigation’s findings, the case did not need to go to a hearing, he added.
“Peel Regional Police takes its promotional process with the utmost seriousness,” he said. “We learned, we investigated and we acted,” he said. “We remain fully committed to maintaining the integrity of the process and preventing similar issues from occurring in the future.”
Carty added that force reveiwed the process and found “additional safeguards to help protect the integrity of future promotional processes.”
