The Walking Man Collective is preparing to raise the curtains on a new, theatre-based interdisciplinary performance in Sault Ste. Marie next summer
The Walking Man Collective in Sault Ste. Marie is seeking actors and crew members for its production of Somewhere Here by playwright W.A. Hamilton.
Described in a news release as a “theatre-based interdisciplinary performance,” the production is set to make its stage debut at the 12,000-foot Heliene Inc. warehouse in Sault Ste. Marie in June of next year.
The Walking Man Collective is made up of individuals from a variety of artistic disciplines, including director Loretta Durat (In Your Eyes Projects, Sault Youth Theatre), W.A. Hamilton (Theatre in Motion), sound and set designer Michael Burtch (Hinterbrane Project) and lighting director Rob Rock.
“Somewhere Here explores the power of buried memory and is an odyssey of rediscovery and catharsis,” The Walking Man Collective said in a release.
“As the characters use child’s play and fragments of memory, they go deeper into the recesses of the protagonist’s mind, employing body memories which are triggered by half-forgotten sounds, movement and dramatic environmental conditions.”
The project is funded by the Ontario Arts Council and the City of Sault Ste. Marie Arts and Culture Assistance Program.
