Carlos Prates delivered one of the best knockouts of the year last night (Sat., Aug. 16, 2025) at UFC 319 LIVE on ESPN+ pay-per-view (PPV) from inside United Center in Chicago, Illinois, when he clobbered welterweight contender Geoff Neal with a spinning back elbow at the first-round buzzer.

UFC 319 was stacked from top to bottom, but most fight fans were really looking forward to this welterweight matchup between Prates and Neal. Both are proven knockout artists who move forward and try to wilt their opponents. It was a recipe for chaos and the Chicago fans in attendance were lucky to see it.

Neal and Prates each had moments early into the fight, but Prates’ shots seemed to have more pop. In fact, Neal’s left eye swelled pretty badly about half way through the first round, which may or may not have led to the final moment of the fight. It happened with just one second left on the clock as Prates landed a wicked spinning back elbow to the side of Neal’s head. Neal went limp and fell backwards onto the ground as blood started to drip from his head.

It was an incredible performance by Prates who asked UFC CEO, Dana White, for a fight in Brazil in October and a $50,000 bonus for his knockout. White not only guaranteed Prates a spot on UFC’s upcoming return to
Rio de Janeiro, but he awarded the Brazilian finisher a $50K post-fight bonus from cageside.
