Live music, family activities, free museum admission and a fireworks finale over Lake Nipissing are planned for July 1
North Bay’s waterfront will once again become the centre of Canada Day celebrations as residents and visitors are invited to a full day of activities, culminating with a fireworks display over Lake Nipissing.
The city’s annual celebration will feature free admission to local attractions, live entertainment at the Kiwanis Bandshell, children’s activities and a regatta on Lake Nipissing.
“The City of North Bay recognizes that Canada Day holds different meaning for each of us, and that it is not a day of celebration for everyone,” the city noted on its website.
“Whether you choose to celebrate or take time to reflect, we encourage everyone to learn more about the full history of our country and its relationship with Indigenous peoples. There are many resources available online for those who wish to deepen their understanding.”
Festivities begin early with registration for the Canada Day 5K Road Race at the A.C.T. Shelter, followed by the race itself at 9:30 a.m. The North Bay Farmers’ Market will also be open near the North Bay Museum through the early afternoon.
Opening ceremonies are scheduled for noon at the Kiwanis Bandshell, which will serve as the main stage for activities throughout the day.
Families can spend the afternoon at the Canada Day Kid Zone in the Rotary Shelter area, take in interactive reptile shows near the A.C.T. Shelter, browse the Farmers’ Market or explore local history at the North Bay Museum and Dionne Quints Museum, both offering free admission.
Visitors to the museum can also view the exhibits North Bay’s Musical Roots: A Diverse Scene of Sound and An Education’s Passion: Changing Lenses on the North Bay Normal School (1915-1942).
On the water, regatta registration begins at 11 a.m., with racers taking to Lake Nipissing at 1 p.m.
Music will continue throughout the afternoon and evening at the Kiwanis Bandshell, culminating with an evening performance by the Jesse Thomas Band before the fireworks finale.
The celebration is scheduled to conclude with a fireworks display at dusk along the waterfront. The fireworks can also be viewed from the Chief Commanda 2 Fireworks Cruise.
Accessible parking will be available at the waterfront for those with valid permits, and ParaBus service will also be offered during the event.
The celebration is free to attend, with the exception of the Fireworks Cruise.
A complete schedule, accessibility information and event updates are available on the City of North Bay’s website.
