There’s a storm brewing on the Canadian prairies, and the Saskatchewan Roughriders want their opponents to take cover.

The Canadian Football League team unveiled their new “Prairie Blizzard” alternate uniforms on their website and social media channels on Tuesday, June 23, and they’ll wear them when they host the Toronto Argonauts at Mosaic Stadium in Regina on Friday, June 26.

The Riders are touting these as a “special one-time look” that will only be worn in Friday’s game, which is technically an Argonauts home game, but they’ve been displaced from BMO Field for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. “Created exclusively for this unique matchup, the Prairie Blizzard uniform reimagines the Roughriders’ traditional road look with a look that puts a special emphasis on the white of the green and white,” the team said on their website.

The base of the jersey is — predictably, given the moniker — white, with the same green side and sleeve panels and the same “SASKATCHEWAN” chest wordmark as their regular road uniforms The numbers on the front and back, though, have been switched up to white with green outlines, and a special version of the Riders’ logo rendered in only green and white appears on each sleeve.

“When we found out that we would be hosting a Toronto home game at Mosaic Stadium and therefore wearing white at home, we worked quickly with our partners at New Era to create something special for fans. The inspiration behind the design was to create a fresh white version of the Club’s iconic logo, eliminating the black entirely to place the full emphasis on the Roughriders’ core colours.”

The recoloured logo also sits on the right hip of the Riders’ usual white home pants and on both sides of the green helmet shell. The pants have a green stripe down each side, with the stripe on the left side interrupted by five diagonal white lines — one for each of the team’s Grey Cup championships.

The launch of the Prairie Blizzard set makes the Riders the third CFL team to unveil a predominantly white uniform this month. The BC Lions rolled out their new “Pacific Frost” away uniforms on June 3, while the Ottawa RedBlacks debuted new white road jerseys and pants to match their black home set on June 15. The Calgary Stampeders also introduced a mostly white road uniform when they launched their new uniforms in late April.

Fans at Mosaic Stadium on Friday will have the chance to win a game-worn Prairie Blizzard uniform right off a player’s back after the game. A limited run of 500 retail jerseys will be available to purchase, crested with the number 13 and “RIDER NATION” on the back. Prairie Blizzard-inspired merchandise is now available through the Riders’ online store.
