Police are issuing a public notification about the release of a high-risk violent sex offender who is expected to live in Winnipeg.

Convicted killer Marcel Hank Charlette, 53, was released from Milner Ridge provincial jail Sunday after serving a sentence for breaches of probation.

The Manitoba Integrated High Risk Sex Offender Unit, a team of RCMP and the Winnipeg Police Service, has deemed Charlette a high-risk to reoffend in a violent and/or sexual manner against men, women and children.

Charlette, also known as Hank Marcel Caribou, Hank Charlette, Peewee and Bald Eagle, was convicted in 1991 of manslaughter in the death of a two-year-old child. He has a long history of committing violent crimes. In 2021, he was convicted of assault on a domestic partner and was sentenced to 18 months incarceration and three years of probation.

Police warn against vigilanteism, saying the public notification is provided so the community can take appropriate steps to protect themselves.

They’re asking anyone with information about Charlette to call the Manitoba Integrated High Risk Sex Offender Unit at 431-489-8056, or the Winnipeg Police Service 204-986-6222, your local RCMP Detachment, or Manitoba Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477.
