Playing Styles & Prediction

It was an emotional win for Jones at Roland Garros, on a surface that is her most successful. That level of success has not been replicated on the green stuff at all. Coupled with four retirements this year, it has been a rough ride for the Brit.

Parry had some good runs on the clay, reached the second round of Berlin via qualies, but failed to make the draw in Bad Homburg but arguably has a little more time on grass than Jones’ three straight defeats in the British part of the grass swing.

There is no doubt that Jones has determination by the bucket load and with a British crowd behind her, she will feel that she stands a chance against the heavy hitting French-woman. Like Jones, she has had more consistent results on the clay and she has areas of vulnerability – her second serve is punishable and she can be a little timid on the backhand side which would give a tenacious Jones n area to target.

Jones would have to pull out all the stops to make this a first win at SW19.

Prediction: Jones in three sets.
