One person is dead and multiple people were injured, including a Toronto firefighter, after a high-rise blaze early Sunday morning in North York.

Firefighters were reportedly alerted to the two-alarm blaze at an apartment building at 1420 Victoria Park Ave., south of Eglinton Ave., around 2 a.m. and found one occupant in a fully involved unit.
Toronto Fire said two other residents of the building and a firefighter were hospitalized with unknown injuries, although fire Chief Jim Jessop later said on social media that the firefighter’s injuries were minor.

The two other occupants were reportedly treated for smoke inhalation, CityNews reported.
“Thinking of the loved ones of the deceased and wishing the injured firefighter a speedy recovery,” Jessop said in an update on the social media site X. “Thank you to all responding crews for their work.”
Police and the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office were also investigating the blaze.

1 dead, 5 injured in Brampton crash
The fatal fire came a few hours after a man was killed and five other men, all in their early 20s, were injured after a late-night crash Saturday in Brampton’s north end where a vehicle allegedly ran a red light.
Peel Regional Police said they responded to the crash at about 10:45 p.m. in the McVean Dr.-Countryside Rd. area, where a sedan travelling eastbound on Countryside allegedly ran a red light and collided with another sedan going southbound on McVean.
The male passenger in the second vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the vehicle that was travelling on Countryside and a passenger suffered life-threatening injuries, another had life-altering injuries and the fourth had non-life-threatening wounds.

“Due to the fact that next of kin has not been notified, I will not be providing any further information in relation to any of the injured parties,” Const. Laurie McCann said. “Our major collision bureau has taken over the investigation and charges are pending.”
All roads in the area have since reopened.

Peel cops also dealt with a four-vehicle crash early Sunday on Steeles Ave. at the northbound Hwy. 410 ramp in Brampton with three people rushed to a trauma centre, including one with critical injuries that were later downgraded to non-life-threatening.
Two other people were in stable condition.
