Dozens of families gathered for an annual picnic at Cross Church on Sunday afternoon.
“This is an annual event at our church, we’ve been doing this for many years,” said Children’s Ministry Director, Rhonda.
The event was free and open to church congregants, and had free hotdogs, snacks, and ice-cream for people to enjoy. As well, there were activities like face painting, arts and crafts, bouncy castles, and other child-friendly games for children to participate in.
The event was hosted to bring together the church community in fellowship.
“It’s an opportunity for our whole church family to get together,” said Rhonda.
The picnic was held indoors due to the rainy and cloudy weather, and families were able to move around from activity to activity.
Rhonda shared her happiness about seeing families connect, “I just love seeing families running around together.”

Caring for each other
Church staff wanted the picnic to show love and care to the church community.
“We are here to love on each other; we truly care about each other,” said Rhonda.
The goal of the afternoon was to see people connect outside of Sunday services and have fun together in a different setting.
“We also want to be able to have a great time together, spending time together learning about Jesus, encouraging each other by doing fun things too,” said Rhonda.
The Gospel is priority
Volunteers shared leading people to the Gospel remained front and center at the heart of the event.
“Ultimately we just want everybody to be impacted by the Good News, the Gospel of Jesus Christ. That’s our number one priority,” said Picnic Volunteer, Lauren.
Organizers hoped that church members would feel more connected as a result of the event and it would direct back to Jesus.
“I’m hoping they take away the fact that we are a true church family. We connect, we care for each other’s needs and ultimately that all this would point to Jesus,” said Picnic Volunteer, Pam.
