New York came back from an early 3-0 deficit on Sunday to take a 4-3 lead, only to give it right back in a 5-4 loss to the visiting Phillies. Kodai Senga, making his first appearance since being removed from the starting rotation, took the loss in relief after working five innings and allowing two runs on four hits. A.J. Ewing tied the game with a two-run home run in the sixth while Carson Benge drove in two runs as well.

The Blue Jays couldn’t avoid a sweep at the hands of the visiting Texas Rangers on Sunday, losing 3-2 when Louis Varland uncorked a wild pitch that allowed the go-ahead run to score from second base in the top of the ninth. Nathan Lukes had tied the game for Toronto with a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth while Shane Bieber allowed two runs on five hits over 5.1 innings in his second start since returning from inflammation in his elbow and forearm.

Toronto gives the ball to right-hander Trey Yesavage (3-3) for the series opener. He enters with a 3.56 ERA and 1.170 WHIP in 11 starts and 60.2 innings. The Mets go with left-hander Sean Manaea (1-2), who joined the rotation on June 13 after opening the campaign in the bullpen. Manaea comes in with a 4.87 ERA and 1.413 WHIP in 17 appearances, including three starts, and 57.1 innings while striking out 60.
