Green Lettuce had been on Kingsway for more than 27 years.

After 27 years on Kingsway, Green Lettuce has shut down.

Green Lettuce, at 1949 Kingsway, offered Indian-style Chinese food, as the owners were ethnically Chinese but were born and raised in India. That led them to open the “first Indian style Chinese food restaurant in the Lower Mainland,” according to the Green Lettuce website.

“The owners brought this concept to Vancouver in hopes that people would love spicy Chinese-Indian food just as much as they do!” reads the Green Lettuce site.

The menu included items like Hunan chicken, Bombay-style garlic fish, chicken pakoras, and deep-fried shrimp wontons, all next to each other.

It closed up permanently on Sunday (June 28).

“Thank you for your many years of support,” reads a note on the front door. “We have enjoyed knowing all of you, and thank you again for being part of our journey.”

Green Lettuce was originally started by Peter Chang and Winton Liang in 1999. In 2003 Liang started a Green Lettuce location in Surrey, which is still operating at 112-6350 120th St.
