According to weather experts, a tornado did touch down in Winnipeg on Monday evening during the severe thunderstorm in the Whyte Ridge area.
Manitoba Storm Watch confirmed that an EF-1 tornado touched down during the storm with a narrow path of damage.
The tornado did end up causing extensive damage to a home, and multiple large trees blew down. A FreshCo grocery store property was hit along the same path, and their shopping cart corral was tossed.
Experts are still analyzing the situation to find out exactly where it landed and ended up.
While no one in Winnipeg received a tornado alert on their phones on Monday evening, the orange severe thunderstorm warning was up for most of the afternoon. This included a section that shared that tornadoes were a possibility because of the low-pressure system.

Experiences from residents in the area
A few residents in the Whyte Ridge area commented on the post with their experience of the wind gusts and quick tornado.
“I live fairly close to where the tornado touched down,” says Lynne. “The trees in my area were swirling around in a circle. I went downstairs!!”
Others reported they knew a big weather event was happening because of the sound.
“Sounded like a train as it went over our house…crazy rain and wind, continuous thunder and lightning,” said Pamela.
While Friday afternoon has a possibility of a thunderstorm in Winnipeg, as of Thursday morning, it isn’t expected to be severe.
