After the Marlins scored 24 runs across the first two games, the Rockies won their first game of this series on the first of July, 6-3. It was actually Colorado’s first win of the season against Miami. The Marlins had won the first five games of this season series, and still lead 5-1 going into this season-series finale. The win for Colorado ended a three-game losing streak, and the Rockies are now 34-53 with a 19-24 home record. Miami missed out on winning three straight after it won six of its last seven going into Wednesday’s Game 3 matchup. The Marlins are still in third place in the NL East with a 46-41 record and an 18-24 mark on the road. With the recent slump of the division-leading Atlanta Braves, Miami is only 5.5 games back of first in a division that seemed long gone for much of the first half of the season. Miami will be the -126 favorite to win this finale even on the road, as it’s already dominated the season series. The Marlins have yet to decide on a starter for Thursday’s game. The Rockies will counter with Michael Lorenzen, who is trying to improve his numbers on the season. The righty is 3-9 with a 6.83 ERA in 81.2 innings.

Rockies’ pitching had struggled tremendously in the first two matchups of this series, but the Colorado local Kyle Freeland helped turn that around on Wednesday night. Freeland went five innings while only giving up two runs on six hits, striking out seven to win his second game of the season. Mickey Moniak had himself a day at the plate, finishing just a single shy of the cycle, including a solo shot in the first. Miami retook the lead on a two-RBI triple from Javier Sanoja in the fourth, but the Rockies came right back with a two-RBI triple from Moniak to kick-start a four-run fifth inning. Hunter Goodman hit a two-run shot to drive home Moniak to essentially put the game out of reach for Miami. Max Meyer was saddled with his first loss of the season after going 9-0 for the Marlins. The Rockies’ win ended an eight-game losing streak against the Marlins.
