Display

The Poco M7 Pro 5G has the same display as the Redmi Note 14 5G, and even the Note 13 5G – a 6.67-inch AMOLED with extended 1080p resolution (1,080 x 2,400), 120Hz refresh rate and 240Hz touch sampling. It supports HDR10+, 960Hz PWM dimming, and DCI-P3 color space.

The screen is covered by Gorilla Glass 5.

Poco M7 Pro 5G review

The official specs list 1,200nits of maximum automatic and 2,100 nits of peak brightness.

We measured 531 nits of maximum manual and 1,179 nits of maximum automatic brightness, close to what Xiaomi has promised.

The minimum brightness was 2.7 nits.

The display supports up to 120Hz refresh rate, and there are two refresh modes – Custom (choose between 120Hz or 60Hz refresh rates), and Default (automatic switching behavior).

The default (adaptive) refresh rate works as expected – it drops down to 60Hz when the screen shows static content. All streaming apps are capped at 60Hz for UI and streaming, too. And, of course, incompatible HFR apps such as the Camera app and Google Maps are always rendered at 60fps.

Adaptiveness is available for the dedicated 120Hz mode as well, but a few more apps could go up to 120Hz as opposed to the default mode.

Note that on lower brightness levels, the screen refresh rate remains 120Hz even when idling.

The only time we saw the screen using 30Hz mode was for the always-on display, which is not really always-on, but lights up for 10s.

Finally, the screen now supports HDR10+ and we can confirm 1080p HDR10 content can be streamed off YouTube and Netflix, among others.

Battery life

The Poco M7 Pro 5G is powered by a 5,110mAh battery, the same as the battery inside the Note 14 5G.

The phone posted an Active Use Score of 11:21 hours, which is an average one by our book – not great, not terrible, if you will. The numbers are close to the Redmi Note 14 5G, which was expected, but for some reason, the gaming time is lower.

Charging speed

The Poco M7 Pro 5G supports up to 45W fast wired charging. The model we have for review ships with Xiaomi’s new 45W power adapter, and that’s the charger we used for our test.

Poco M7 Pro 5G review

The adapter refilled 32% of the dead battery in 15mins, 58% in 30mins, and 100% in 60 mins. Those numbers are plenty fast for this price range.

Xiaomi has two battery charging settings. You can choose between fast and standard charging, and you can enable nighttime battery protection where the phone finishes the charging process around your scheduled wake-up time.

Speakers

The Poco M7 Pro features stereo speakers and they support Dolby Atmos enhancement (on by default). The top speaker also acts as an earpiece; it is quieter and lacks thump, but the audio balance is good.

When using volume control, you will see that there are two more positions after 100% – those are called Volume Boost and they are marked as 200% and 300%. The sound at 200% and 300% becomes a bit flat, but loud it is.

Poco M7 Pro 5G review

Our test was done at maximum volume (300% in this case), like we do on most phones. The Poco M7 Pro scored a Very Good mark for loudness. The sound quality is identical to the Redmi Note 14 5G – it is okay with good vocals, well-presented high frequencies, but the bass is barely there.

Use the Playback controls to listen to the phone sample recordings (best use headphones). We measure the average loudness of the speakers in LUFS. A lower absolute value means a louder sound. A look at the frequency response chart will tell you how far off the ideal “0db” flat line is the reproduction of the bass, treble, and mid frequencies. You can add more phones to compare how they differ. The scores and ratings are not comparable with our older loudspeaker test. Learn more about how we test here.
