JOLIET, Ill. — When the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series returns to Chicagoland Speedway this weekend for the first time since 2019, Joe Gibbs Racing will arrive with one of the most impressive records at the 1.5-mile oval.

The organization has collected seven victories in 59 series starts at Chicagoland, along with 17 top-five finishes, 36 top-10s, seven poles and 1,603 laps led. Kyle Busch accounted for four of those victories, while Erik Jones won twice and Joey Logano added another triumph for the organization.

Now, JGR will look to add to that legacy with a four-car lineup featuring a mix of rising stars, championship contenders and proven experience.

Among the drivers to watch is Brandon Jones, who enters the weekend with the most Chicagoland experience of the team’s current roster. Jones is one of only a handful of drivers in the field who competed in the series’ most recent race at the Illinois speedway in 2019.

The driver of the No. 20 M-D Building Products/Menards Toyota GR Supra owns one top-five and two top-10 finishes in four Chicagoland starts, including a fourth-place finish in his most recent appearance at the track. Jones also participated in a tire test at Chicagoland earlier this year, providing valuable recent track time ahead of NASCAR’s return.

While Jones brings experience, rookie Brent Crews arrives with momentum.

The 18-year-old driver of the No. 19 Young Life Toyota has quickly emerged as one of the series’ top young talents. Through 15 starts this season, Crews has recorded seven top-five finishes, 10 top-10s and more than 130 laps led. He enters the weekend fresh off a third-place finish at Sonoma Raceway and has posted runner-up finishes at Talladega, Nashville and Pocono.

Although Crews has never raced at Chicagoland, his recent performances on intermediate tracks suggest he could contend immediately. Earlier this season, he finished fifth at Kansas Speedway and fourth at Texas Motor Speedway.

Another driver facing a learning curve is William Sawalich, who will make his first Chicagoland start in the No. 18 Starkey Toyota GR Supra.

Sawalich has shown increasing speed on 1.5-mile tracks this season, finishing ninth at Las Vegas, fourth at Charlotte and third at Nashville. The 19-year-old will gain additional seat time this weekend by competing in Friday’s ARCA Menards Series race, giving him an extra opportunity to familiarize himself with the aging racing surface.

Meanwhile, Taylor Gray enters the weekend hoping to rebound from a frustrating finish at Sonoma, where he ran near the front before running out of fuel on the final lap.

Gray has already proven capable of winning on intermediate tracks this season. The driver of the No. 54 Operation 300 Toyota scored a victory at Kansas Speedway after leading 48 laps and could be among the favorites this weekend despite making his first start at Chicagoland.

His team also benefits from the experience of crew chief Jason Ratcliff, the winningest crew chief in series history. Ratcliff owns two victories at Chicagoland and has guided teams to six top-10 finishes at the track.
