Following the World Cup, live soccer and football action continues at Swangard Stadium and BC Place throughout the month.

World Cup fever has officially conquered Vancouver. The city has spent years preparing for its hosting role, but few could have predicted what’s unfolded during the tournament.

You can see it everywhere: the parade of spectators heading toward BC Place on game days, nightly celebrations on Granville Street, watch parties that have transformed public spaces and the packed restaurants and bars where fans are clamouring for a spot in front of a screen.

Then there’s the inevitable FOMO when you find out another one of your friends has scored one of the hottest tickets in town: a coveted seat inside the stadium for one of Vancouver’s seven World Cup matches.

If all that excitement has you wanting to see more live sports, Vancouver has plenty to offer this summer. To keep the momentum going after the billowing clouds of red and white smoke bombs have settled, the city is home to two professional soccer clubs and a football team well worth cheering for.

Vancouver Whitecaps FC

Of course, we have to start with our hometown soccer squad. The Vancouver Whitecaps are currently on a break for World Cup action, with several players representing their countries on the international stage, including Sebastian Berhalter (USA), Andrés Cubas (Paraguay) and Rayan Elloumi (Tunisia).

As the FIFA tournament reaches its final rounds, fans will have a rare opportunity to catch the Caps up close before they resume their MLS season at BC Place in August. The team will make a special return to Swangard Stadium, a venue that holds a significant place in the club’s early history, for a TELUS Canadian Championship fixture against Calgary’s Cavalry FC on July 8, with a spot in the CONCACAF Champions Cup on the line. At this match, fans can even take in the action from the supporters’ section right behind the net and join the Southsiders fan club from pitch level.

Vancouver Rise FC

Rise FC have made an immediate impact since their debut in April 2025, helping usher in a new era for women’s pro soccer in Vancouver. The club has quickly risen to the occasion as part of the growing professional women’s game in Canada, with Burnaby-born Canadian soccer icon (and current guest voice for TransLink announcements during the World Cup) Christine Sinclair among its co-owners.

Fans can catch Rise FC at Swangard Stadium for two games in July, in which they welcome Halifax Tides FC on July 25 and Roses de Montréal FC on July 29.

BC Lions

Vancouver’s professional (oblong) football team takes on the Toronto Argonauts at BC Place on July 25 in a key mid-season CFL matchup. The BC Lions have been competitive through the 2025 campaign, sitting near the top of the West Division standings and firmly in the mix for another playoff push.

Most notably, this will be the first major event held at BC Place following the conclusion of the World Cup, offering fans a chance to see the stadium’s new international tournament upgrades up close.

For soccer fans still riding the high of the tournament, or football fans ready for action, this is a chance to experience a very different kind of professional sports atmosphere in the same venue.
