A 22-year-old man accused of being linked to the organized crime group known as “For Brothers” is facing extortion and conspiracy to commit murder charges following his arrest in Alberta and extradition to Ontario.
The charges stem from an ongoing investigation by Peel Regional Police’s Extortion Task Force into violent incidents connected to extortion activity in Brampton.
Investigators allege that on April 21, at approximately 2:50 a.m., a Brampton business was targeted in a shooting. Police recovered 14 shell casings from the scene after the suspect fled in a silver Honda Civic.
In a separate incident on May 6, at about 8 p.m., a man was leaving his residence when he was confronted by an unknown individual who allegedly pointed a firearm at him. Police say the weapon malfunctioned, allowing the victim to escape unharmed. The suspect was last seen fleeing in a grey Acura Integra.
On June 23, Edmonton Police Service officers arrested Safaldeep Singh, 22, during a traffic stop in Alberta. During the arrest, officers allegedly seized a quantity of drugs and a loaded illegal firearm, leading to additional firearms and drug-related charges.
Working with Peel Regional Police, authorities arranged for Singh’s return to Ontario on June 26, where he was formally charged with extortion and conspiracy to commit murder in connection with the Brampton incidents.
Singh was denied bail and remains in custody pending further court proceedings.
Police noted that the arrest forms part of a broader crackdown on the For Brothers criminal organization. In May, Peel Regional Police announced the arrest of several individuals allegedly connected to the group.
Since 2023, the force’s Extortion Task Force has been investigating violent extortion-related offences across the region, including threats, financial demands, shootings and arsons, as part of ongoing efforts to improve community safety.
Investigators continue to appeal for information from the public as the investigation remains ongoing.
