A hot, humid Friday is now expected to give way to a slightly cooler weekend around Ottawa-Gatineau.

Heat warnings still cover all of eastern Ontario and western Quebec Friday, and they’re still considered at the orange level by Environment Canada for most of eastern Ontario — meaning uncommonly significant weather.

However, where those orange warnings were at times forecast to last into the weekend, that’s now less certain.

Humidity is expected to make local temperatures around 30 C feel like the high 30s at its worst, according to Environment Canada Friday.

That compares to highs of 32 or 33 C in Ottawa on Wednesday and Thursday, with humidity making it feel like the low 40s.

Friday night should drop to around 20 C in southern parts of the region and get into the teens further north.

Saturday is expected to peak in the high 20s with humidity making it feel around 30 and a seasonal nighttime low in the mid teens.

Ottawa’s daytime high has hit 30 C four of the last five days.

There has also been a tornado warning south of Ottawa each of the last three days, with strong thunderstorms and flash flooding cancelling many Canada Day plans.

There is again a 30 to 40 per cent chance of thunderstorms Friday afternoon, without a watch or warning yet.

The Kingston area has a risk of thunderstorms on Saturday afternoon.

There are about 15,000 local customers without power as of around 7:45 a.m. Friday, all but 1,500 or so under Hydro One.
