A Keighley boxing gym has launched an online fundraising appeal to buy new equipment and improve training for everyone from beginners to experienced fighters.
Switch Hitters, based at Keighley Business Centre, is aiming to raise £3,500 through a JustGiving campaign for upgrades and new equipment.
Jonny Greenwood, who runs the gym, said: “We’re aiming to raise £3,500 for upgrades and new equipment at the gym, which will make coaching and training better for all that use our club.”
“We’re doing big things at Switch Hitters, making a name for ourselves on the Yorkshire boxing scene and looking forward to our third home show in the autumn.”
The club serves children, teenagers, and adults, welcoming people of all ages and experience levels.
Sixteen-year-old Kian Collins, who has trained at Switch Hitters for a year, said the club has made a big impact on his life.
Mr Collins said: “Training at Switch Hitters has helped me make major progress with my boxing.
“The coaches are brilliant and always help us improve.
“The club has helped me become more confident, fitter and more disciplined, and I’m proud to represent them.”
His father, Darren, said the environment has been as valuable as the training.
Mr Collins said: “Kian’s confidence, fitness and boxing skills have improved enormously at this club, and he looks forward to every training session.
“My son is part of a supportive community that encourages every boxer to do their best.”
Jonny Greenwood, 33, has been involved in the sport since the age of 13 and coaches throughout the day until late evening.
Mr Greenwood said: “Our gym has 60 attending group and individual sessions weekly, meaning that the extra equipment is vital.
“We’re hoping that local people and businesses view donations as an investment not just in a community boxing club but also in local young people.”
The club is exploring tax-deductible sponsorship packages for businesses and is open to ideas for how boxers could contribute toward raising funds.
