Adam Cole‘s in-ring promo at AEW All: In Texas was a very much a downer moment, but it could have been even worse.

Saturday afternoon at AEW All In: Texas, Adam Cole addressed the live crowd, announcing that he needed to step away from the ring for a while. While the word retirement was used, it wasn’t explicitly a retirement speech, although a new report suggests it almost was.

On a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez discussed the Cole situation and revealed that at one point, he was ready to go out in front of the crowd and announce his retirement. However, cooler heads prevailed.

“From what I can gather, he was pretty much ready to go out on Saturday and retire,” Bryan Alvarez said. “But cooler heads prevailed. He may make that decision at any time. Everything that you saw on TV was 100% legitimate. His future as a wrestler is very much in doubt.”

After All In, it was reported that Cole is currently dealing with another concussion. An injury he’s had issues with in recent years.
