Camila Giorgi has been away from the WTA Tour since 2024, but the Italian’s latest practice session showed she hasn’t left tennis behind.

The former world No.26 turned heads after sharing footage of herself hitting on clay while nearly 30 weeks pregnant, moving through a controlled session in Spain with the clean timing and flat ball-striking that once made her one of the most dangerous players on tour.

Camila Giorgi shocks fans by playing tennis at 30 weeks pregnant

Giorgi wasn’t playing at match intensity, but the clip was enough to remind fans why her planned 2027 comeback has become such an intriguing storyline.

Giorgi, 34, stepped away from professional tennis abruptly after the 2024 Miami Open, with her retirement becoming official when her name appeared on the International Tennis Integrity Agency’s retired players list.

She didn’t stage a long farewell or hold a major announcement, which only added to the mystery around her exit.

Her next chapter has been just as eventful. Giorgi married former ATP player and coach Andreas Ignacio Pasutti in Argentina earlier this year, and later revealed she was expecting her first child.

During an Instagram Q&A, she was asked whether she would return to tournament tennis and replied, “Yes, in 2027.”

Video changes comeback conversation

Pregnancy alone would have made Giorgi’s practice video noteworthy. The sharper detail was how comfortable she still looked with a racket in hand.

Her game has always been built around aggression, early ball contact and the ability to rush opponents before rallies settle.

Even in a light training session, those instincts were still visible as she worked through groundstrokes on clay and gave followers another glimpse of how seriously she is keeping tennis in her life.

That matters because a return in 2027 would come after almost three years away from top-level competition. Giorgi would have to rebuild her ranking, fitness and match rhythm in a WTA field that has moved on quickly since she last played.

Still, her peak level was never in doubt. Giorgi’s biggest career title came at the 2021 Canadian Open, where she beat Elise Mertens, Petra Kvitova, Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula and Karolina Pliskova to win a WTA 1000 crown.

Wimbledon memories add to the intrigue

Giorgi also had her best Grand Slam run at Wimbledon in 2018, reaching the quarterfinals before pushing Serena Williams to three sets. That remains her only major quarterfinal, but it showed the kind of threat she could pose when her timing and confidence clicked.

Her last title came at the 2023 Merida Open, and her final tour appearance before retirement ended with a straight-sets loss to Iga Swiatek in Miami in 2024.

A 2027 comeback would be difficult, especially after pregnancy and a long break from competition. Yet Giorgi’s baby bump tennis session shows this isn’t just nostalgia.

She’s still on court, still striking the ball, and still giving fans a reason to wonder what might happen when she returns.
