Trouble securing a tee time in Metro Vancouver?
Depending on the day, many local golfers experience difficulty finding a nearby course to tee off with friends, particularly on a sunny weekend.
That’s where Soroush Vaghay-negar comes in.
While he’s a software engineer by day, Vaghay-negar is a tee-time-finding wizard by green. He founded an app called TeeClub to help folks find a tee time that works with their schedule — and that sometimes means last minute.
“TeeClub basically is the Google Flights or the Trivago of golf tee times. It scans all the golf courses in the region that you select. We have Metro Vancouver, we have Sea to Sky, we have Okanagan, Vancouver Island, and much more,” he says.
Normally, people looking for a tee time need to visit several different websites, or call around, similar to someone booking a flight and visiting each airline’s website to compare prices and dates.
“Additionally, some courses, especially in the City of Vancouver and Burnaby, release tee times at a specific time, especially for the prime times. So that could be from like 9 a.m. to noon. So then [we] also have the watch list that lets you watch this for those times and then sends you a text or email for when there’s a cancellation or even tee times in the future that come up,” he explains.

TeeClub tracks over 7,500 tee times across 36 Metro Vancouver courses weekly, including Vancouver’s courses (Langara, Fraserview, McCleery), UBC and dozens more from Burnaby out to Langley. You can filter by date, price, group size and weather, too.
The app’s Rangefinder “turns your phone into a golf GPS” with a “satellite map of the hole you’re playing and live distances to the green from exactly where you’re standing,” he says.
Golfers can get a list of mapped courses sorted by proximity and view satellite images of individual holes, rotated so they play up the screen like they are looking down the fairway.
Vaghay-negar says the app uses a phone’s GPS to show front, centre, and back-of-green yardages measured from your real position, with a line drawn from you to the pin. The numbers update live as you walk.
The app updates the holes based on your location, meaning if you are on the eighth hole, it will update when you go to the ninth.
“You can also browse any hole from home to plan a round; when you’re not at the course, distances are shown from the tee as a preview,” he adds.
Why does all this matter?
Vaghay-negar says accurate, real-time yardages normally require a dedicated GPS watch or laser rangefinder, but are built right into the TeeClub app.
