Celebrated Winnipeg director and performer Rob Herriot has passed away.
Multiple sources confirm that Herriot passed away in Winnipeg on July 3. He was 60 years old.
Herriot was well-regarded in Winnipeg and across North America for his work in both opera and musical theatre. He was a frequent collaborator with local organizations like Manitoba Opera, the Little Opera Company of Winnipeg, and Rainbow Stage. Outside of Manitoba, Herriot lent his directorial vision to groups like Opera Kelowna, Calgary Opera, Utah Opera, and Arizona Opera.

A passionate educator, Herriot worked with emerging artists all over the country as they developed their skills. He frequently worked with artists at the University of Manitoba’s Desautels Faculty of Music and at NUOVA Vocal Arts in Edmonton, one of Canada’s most prestigious summer training programs.
Herriot is being remembered as a director with passion and vision. Most recently, he directed a vintage Canadian-style production of Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte which debuted at Manitoba Opera in 2023. The production has since toured to Vancouver and Edmonton to great acclaim.
Herriot is survived by his husband Lars Treloar.
