The Canadian Armed Forces says a flyover will take place above the Bell Centre as part of a public commemorative ceremony Tuesday in honour of a Montreal police officer killed in a shootout in Côte-des-Neiges last month.
A pair of CH-146 Griffon helicopters will be part of the flypast at 10:15 a.m. and will “operate at altitudes no less than 500 feet above the highest obstacle on their route.”
“The flypast will be conducted in support of a commemorative ceremony honouring members of the Montreal community affected by the tragic events of June 22, 2026,” the CAF said in a news release issued Monday afternoon.
The event “may generate unfamiliar noise,” the military said, adding its flights are “meticulously planned and closely monitored to ensure public safety, with operations contingent on weather and flying conditions.”
The flyover is part of the public ceremony for Const. Mohamed Lamine Benredouane, 34, who was killed shortly after police responded to a report of a gunman near Trans Island and de Courtrai Aves. on June 22. The suspected shooter was also killed, as was a bystander, and another police officer and civilian were also shot in the incident.
Benredouane leaves behind his partner, who is pregnant with their second child, and their three-year-old son.
A private funeral was held for Benredouane last month.
The ceremony itself begins at 12:30 p.m., and a full schedule is available on the SPVM’s website.
