Edmonton police are appealing for witnesses after a senior citizen involved in a car crash last month died in hospital.
The 81-year-old victim died of his injuries Saturday, weeks after his vehicle was hit while making a left turn on 97 Street north of the Yellowhead, police said Monday.
The collision happened just before 6 p.m. on June 24. The victim was northbound in a Kia Seltos when he attempted a left turn onto 132 Avenue. A southbound Kia Optima driven by a 22-year-old man struck the victim’s vehicle. The older man was rushed to hospital with serious injuries but was initially in stable condition, police said.
The Optima driver and his passenger, a 21-year-old woman, were also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and have since been released. Investigators do not believe impairment played a role in the collision.
On Monday, the police major collision investigations section asked anyone who witnessed the crash to contact the police non-emergency line.
There have been 10 fatal collisions in Edmonton in 2026.
