Toronto parking officer hurt in waterfront hit-and-run

Police are urging the public to come forward with tips after a parking enforcement officer was injured after being struck by a vehicle that fled from the waterfront Monday afternoon in downtown Toronto.

Toronto Police said they responded to a personal injury collision just before 2:30 p.m. in the Queens Quay E.-Richardson St. area, where a parking enforcement officer had issued a ticket to a white 2017 Mercedes-Benz C63S convertible.

Police said the driver returned to the vehicle and allegedly argued with the officer before getting in and driving away.

They alleged that the officer, who suffered minor injuries, and another vehicle were then struck and the male driver continued to flee westbound on Queens Quay.

Police said they are looking for a male with a medium build and shoulder-length hair that was in braids. He was wearing a black hat, white T-shirt, black shorts and white shoes at the time.

Peel Regional Police are also seeking the driver of a white Mercedes after a pedestrian was struck and killed in a hit-and-run early Sunday morning in the Erin Mills area of Mississauga.

Police said they responded to the crash at about 6 a.m. in the Erin Mills Pkwy.-Eglinton Ave. W. area, where a white Mercedes sedan was travelling eastbound on Eglinton at a high rate of speed before it struck a female pedestrian who was in the intersection.

They said the driver made no attempt to stop and fled from the scene.

A 38-year-old Mississauga woman was pronounced dead.

Police said the suspect vehicle may have extensive damage to the front end and windshield and they are appealing for people in the area at that time to review video footage. They are also asking body shops to contact them if a white Mercedes sedan with similar damage is brought in for repairs.

“Investigators are urging the suspect to retain legal counsel and turn themselves in to police,” Peel cops said in a news release.
