It was a tough start to the 2026 Calgary Stampede rodeo for Grady Young.
The Leader, Saskatchewan bull rider was bucked off “Blue Nerve” on his opening ride of Pool B on Monday afternoon.
Young finished in a tie for second in the 2025 Calgary Stampede bull riding event and is the #1 ranked bull rider on the CPRA circuit in 2026, coming off a win at the Ponoka Stampede in June that earned him a paycheque of nearly $20,000.
He is the only competitor from Saskatchewan in the entire field of 210 rodeo athletes at this year’s Calgary Stampede.

There were only four qualifying bull rides on day one of Pool B, with Noah Lee of Mineral Wells, Texas earning the top score of the day with a 90.5 on “Shaboozie”.
Pool B performances continue on Tuesday and Wednesday with the top three advancing to Championship Sunday on June 12.
