Cloverdale Chamber submits recommendations for 2027 B.C. budget

The Cloverdale District Chamber of Commerce has submitted recommendations for the 2027 B.C. budget.
Scott Wheatley, executive director of the Cloverdale Chamber, sent in three recommendations to the Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services as part of the 2027 budget consultation process.
“As the voice of business for Cloverdale, Clayton Heights, and Campbell Heights, our submission focused on practical priorities that support local businesses, strengthen our economy, and help East Surrey continue to grow,” Wheatley wrote in a message to members and shared with the Cloverdale Reporter.
He noted the Chamber—on behalf of its members, more than 550 in the East Surrey area—made recommendations on better transit and transportation connections, infrastructure investment to support business growth, and stronger action on business crime and public safety.
In terms of transit, Wheatley said his members want improved transportation and transit access for the entirety of East Surrey, which includes better service for Campbell Heights, South Campbell Heights, and the new Surrey hospital. These connections, he noted, should take into account the future Surrey-Langley SkyTrain corridor.
“We called for targeted infrastructure investments in Campbell Heights and South Campbell Heights, including energy capacity, servicing upgrades, ZEV charging infrastructure, and timely provincial approvals,” Wheatley wrote. “These investments are important to supporting employment lands, business expansion, and long-term economic growth.
Wheatley also indicated a strong emphasis needs to be placed on public safety because it’s an economic issue for businesses.
“Theft, vandalism, break-ins, trespassing, illegal dumping, vehicle damage, and street disorder all create real costs for employers,” he said. “We called for visible enforcement, adequate police and justice system capacity, and stronger partnerships to address repeat offending and property crime.”
He added the recommendations are part of the Chamber’s continued effort to advocate for local businesses to all levels of government.
