Service on the Réseau express métropolitain is expected function normally Wednesday after a day that the saw the light rail system plagued by disruptions across its network.

The problems began around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, when what was described as a switch problem slowed down service between Deux-Montagnes and Bois-Franc stations as well as between Anse-à-l’Orme and Bois-Franc stations, in all directions.

Within 10 minutes, the same issue was being blamed for a slowdown between Édouard-Montpetit and Du Ruisseau stations toward the South Shore.

That was followed by an interruption of service around 12:30 p.m. between the Panama and Brossard stations because of a power supply problem. While service was expected initially to be restored by 1:30 p.m., authorities later told commuters the interruption was in effect until further notice.

Then, at 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, authorities announced that frequency of service between Gare Centrale and Brossard stations had been reduced to 40 minutes because of emergency work and it would be necessary for commuters to change trains at Gare Centrale.

Due to emergency work, reduced service is in effect between Gare Centrale and Brossard stations. A service frequency of approximately 40 minutes should be expected on this section of the network. A train transfer at Gare Centrale station will be required.…

REM officials said that as of 11 p.m. Tuesday, there would be an early shutdown of the network between Gare Centrale and Brossard stations, and that alternative transportation options will be provided according to the regular REM schedule.
