The three-time Cy Young winner and Detroit Tigers pitcher has announced he’ll be retiring after the 2026 season.
Verlander made the announcement in a social media post on Wednesday, shortly after the league revealed he had been named to the MLB all-star roster as a Legend Pick.
“While I’m fully committed to giving my team everything I have for the rest of this season, I’ve decided this will be my last,” he wrote. “It’s fitting I get to finish where it all started — with the Detroit Tigers.”
Verlander has been on the injured list since April and has only appeared in one game for the Tigers this season.
He will not be active for the All-Star Game itself, but is expected to attend and be honoured during the week’s events.
This is the 10th all-star nod for the 43-year-old, whose legendary career includes three Cy Young awards and an American League MVP in 2011.
