San Diego scored all four of its runs in the first inning, capped by Jake Cronenworth’s three-run home run, in a 4-1 win over the Diamondbacks on Tuesday night. Jackson Merrill opened the scoring with an RBI single. Germán Márquez allowed one run, unearned, in five innings before the bullpen followed up with four scoreless frames.

Starter Zac Gallen settled in after the rocky first inning to work six innings, but the damage had been done as he fell to 3-9 on the season. The Diamondbacks got their only run in the top of the first when Max Kepler worked a bases-loaded walk while Gabriel Moreno got two of Arizona’s five hits in the loss.

Right-hander Michael King (5-7) gets the start on Wednesday for the Padres, entering with a 3.52 ERA and 1.163 WHIP in 18 starts and 102.1 innings. Arizona goes with rookie right-hander José Cabrera (0-1), who comes in with a 4.73 ERA and 1.575 WHIP in three starts and 13.1 innings since joining the club on June 21.
