The Montreal Canadiens have added to their organizational depth on defence by signing Reilly Walsh to a one-year, two-way contract.
The 27-year-old blueliner spent last season with Barys Astana in the KHL, where he finished third among defenceman in league scoring with 16-30-46 totals in 68 games.
A native of Framingham, Mass, the 6-foot, 185-pound right-shot defenceman played three seasons at Harvard University. He has one career NHL game under his belt with the New Jersey Devils, the team that drafted him in the third round (81st overall) in 2017.
He’ll probably join a new-look blue line for the AHL’s Laval Rocket this fall. Montreal’s farm club lost regulars William Trudeau and Marc Del Gaizo to the Rangers organization, as well as Tobie Bisson to the Providence Bruins. It remains to be seen whether top prospects David Reinbacher and Adam Engstrom will play in Montreal or Laval next season.
