Jonas Vingegaard will see American-accented super-support from Matteo Jorgenson and Sepp Kuss in his quest to win the 2025 Vuelta a EspaƱa.

Team Visma-Lease a Bike confirmed Monday that Kuss and Jorgenson will flank Vingegaard for ā€œproject redā€ and a crucial opportunity to settle the scales in the super team battle with UAE Emirates-XRG.

ā€œThe overall win is our big goal for the Vuelta, there’s no need to be coy about that,ā€ said team head of racing Grischa Niermann.

ā€œJonas is our leader and our biggest chance for the overall victory. But with Sepp Kuss, we have a former winner at the start, and Matteo Jorgenson has recovered well after the Tour de France,ā€ Niermann said Monday.

ā€œTogether with Wilco Kelderman, Ben Tulett, Victor Campenaerts, Dylan van Baarle, and Axel Zingle, we have a team that can support Jonas in every situation.ā€

Vingegaard rides into the Vuelta as uber-favorite for the maillot rojo.

Tadej Pogačar is on the couch rebooting from Tour de France fatigue.

In his absense, UAE’s leadership duo Juan Ayuso and JoĆ£o Almeida lead a deep field of chasers for what will be three weeks of steeps across Italy, France, Andorra, and Spain.

Jorgenson and Kuss, who both finished top-20 at the recent Tour de France, will provide Vingegaard with podium-potential support.

#GCKUSS famously led home a Jumbo-Visma sweep at the 2023 Vuelta a EspaƱa. The so-called ā€œEagle of Durangoā€ seemed to be inching toward his best last month while he towed Vingegaard through the French Alps and PyrĆ©nĆ©es.

Jorgenson battled back from a bout of bronchitis to end his Tour on a high. The 26-year-old’s stunning tear-up with Wout van Aert and Pogačar through rain-soaked Paris was one for the Tour de France highlights reel.

How about a Visma-Lease a Bike 1-2-3 in Madrid?

It’s not entirely out of the question.

Belgian rouleur and Instagram reel-monster Victor Campenaerts will join Vingegaard, Jorgenson, and Kuss in the Tour de France reunion party.

Only four weeks separate the Tour’s final stage in Paris and the Vuelta’s roll out from Turin on Saturday.

Is Vingegaard fatigued?

Far from it.

He’s champing at the bit.

ā€œI’m looking forward to this Tour of Spain,ā€ Vingegaard said Monday. ā€œAfter the Tour, I first took some rest and then started my preparations for this next main goal of my season. In recent weeks, I’ve been on an individual training camp, with support from the team on-site.

ā€œI’m here for the overall win, and with this team supporting me, that seems like a realistic goal,ā€ Vingegaard continued. ā€œThere are many stages where differences can be made, so it’s important to be ready from the very start. I’m ready and would prefer to start racing right away.ā€

Vingegaard’s wish will be fulfilled on August 23.
