Three Canada West championships with the University of Victoria Vikes were only the beginning for Elias Ralph, who is now knocking on the door of the NBA.
Ralph was named to the Sacramento Kings’ 15-player Summer League roster after joining the club as an undrafted free agent following the NBA Draft. Prior to being added to the Kings roster, the 22-year-old attended pre-draft workouts with Sacramento and the Golden State Warriors.
Before heading to Las Vegas, Ralph was also part of Sacramento’s roster for the California Classic Summer League. He did not play in any games, listed as a ‘coach’s decision’ for all three contests.
The Kings open Summer League play in Las Vegas on July 9, with Sacramento set to face the Los Angeles Clippers, Washington Wizards, Brooklyn Nets and Boston Celtics before the event shifts to knockout play.
The Summer League serves as a proving ground for draft picks and undrafted free agents, giving teams a chance to evaluate players for NBA roster spots or opportunities with their NBA G League affiliates.
Although originally from Okotoks, Alta., Ralph made his mark on the Island during three seasons with the Vikes.
Joining the program in 2021, the 6-foot-7, 212-pound forward appeared in 76 games, spread across three seasons with UVic, averaging 13.3 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists.
Along with helping Victoria win three consecutive Canada West titles, Ralph was named Canada West rookie of the year in 2022 and earned Canada West second-team all-star honours in 2023-24.
Following his third season with the Vikes, Ralph was selected third overall by the Saskatchewan Rattlers, now known as the Mamba, in the 2024 Canadian Elite Basketball League Draft. He then transferred to the University of Pacific for the final two years of his collegiate eligibility.
Ralph played 60 games for the NCAA Division I Tigers over those two seasons, earning all-conference honours in his senior season.
“Elias exemplifies the culture we’re striving to build here at Pacific, and his dedication day in and out to perfecting his craft is reflected in the Kings giving him a shot to play against other NBA-calibre players,” Tigers head coach Dave Smart said.
He averaged 15.4 points, seven rebounds and 1.7 assists per game with the Tigers over his tenure in Stockton.
“He is proof that if you come to Pacific, put the work in, strive to get better every day and perform on the court, NBA scouts will take notice, and we can get you to the next level.”
