Bryce Harper’s teammate is joining him in next week’s Home Run Derby.
MLB announced Friday that Philadelphia Phillies star Kyle Schwarber will participate in the Home Run Derby at Citizens Bank Park. It will be the third Home Run Derby of Schwarber’s career.
Schwarber’s bid comes after Harper announced Thursday that he’d participate in the event for the third time in his career.
Here’s a look at the updated field for the Home Run Derby.
2026 Home Run Derby Participants
Schwarber has been one of the league’s premier home run hitters over the last few seasons, and that’s no different this year. He currently leads the majors with 32 home runs, three ahead of the second-place Yordan Alvarez.
MLB.com’s Todd Zolecki noted that Schwarber has collected the second-most home runs (219) in the majors since 2022, trailing only New York Yankees star Aaron Judge (227).
While Schwarber has been the home run king so far this year, he’s still looking for his first win in the Derby. He reached the finals in 2018, finishing as the runner-up behind Harper. He also participated in the event in 2022.
This year’s Home Run Derby should be special, and having a pair of Phillies in the event only makes for a more exciting experience for fans in Philadelphia. It’s the first time since 2018 that a pair of teammates have participated in the event in the same year.
