Three men have now been charged in the 2024 kidnapping of a delivery driver in Winnipeg who was held at gunpoint for several hours, police say.
The charges come after a lengthy investigation into the incident, police said in a news release on Friday.
On the evening of Oct. 11, 2024, a 22-year-old man was delivering merchandise to a business on Nairn Avenue, between Stadacona and Allan streets in the city’s Elmwood neighbourhood.
He was confronted by a man who put a gun to the driver’s head and forced him into an enclosed trailer, police said. The victim’s cellphone and the merchandise he was delivering were stolen.
The victim was held at gunpoint under threats of harm to him and his family while being driven to a storage facility on Notre Dame Avenue and Clifton Street, where he was forced to give the access codes to a storage unit.
The men then stole more merchandise, worth approximately $25,000, which was then taken to various properties in the city while the victim remained confined, according to police.
The victim was eventually driven back to the Nairn Avenue location where the kidnapping began, and was left there physically unhurt.
He reported the incident to police, who eventually identified three suspects.
A 41-year-old man was arrested on Sherbrook Street, north of the Health Sciences Centre, on Dec. 20, 2024. During his arrest, crew in the police service’s helicopter saw him toss a gun into a garbage bin, according to the news release. It was recovered and found to have been stolen.
Officers also seized approximately 50 cartons of unstamped cigarettes.
The second man, a 34-year-old, was arrested on July 31, 2025, near McPhillips Street and Notre Dame Avenue. Police say they seized a knife, five grams of methamphetamine, and 2.5 grams of cocaine.
The third arrest came on July 6 of this year. Officers with the Treaty Three Police Service in northwestern Ontario took a 35-year-old man into custody, and turned him over to police in Manitoba.
All three men have been charged with kidnapping, armed robbery, extortion, uttering threats, and breaking and entering.
The man arrested in 2022, now 43 years old, has also been charged with a number of firearm-related offences, failing to comply with previous court orders and possession of contraband cigarettes.
The man arrested last July is additionally charged with firearms offences, failing to comply with release conditions and possession of drugs.
All three remain in custody.
