Scottie Scheffler is in contention for a big win at the BMW Championship.

Scottie Scheffler took home $3.6 million as part of a $20 million purse for winning the 2025 BMW Championship, according to the PGA Tour. The tournament, played from August 14 to August 17 at the Caves Valley Golf Glub in Owings Mill, Maryland, was the second leg of the FedEx Cup playoffs.

Robert MacIntyre, who entered Sunday’s final round with a four-shot lead over Scheffler, finished in second, earning $2.16 million. Maverick McNealy finished in third, winning $1.36 million. Fleetwood and Sam Burns rounded out the top 5, with Harry Hall, Viktor Hovland, Rickie Fowler, Ludvig Aberg and Michael Kim finishing in the top 10.

The field at the BMW Championship included the top 50 players in the PGA Tour playoff standings. The top 30 players in the FedEx Cup standings after the BMW Championship advanced to the final tournament in the playoffs, the Tour Championship.

Scheffler also won a $5 million bonus for leading the playoff standings through the BMW Championship. According to NBC Sports, Scheffler has earned nearly $47 million during the 2025 season and can win another $10 million with a FedEx Cup and Tour Championship victory next week.

Rory McIlroy, who skipped the FedEx St. Jude Championship last week to begin the playoffs, still held on to second place in the FedEx Cup standings, earning a $3.5 million bonus. J.J. Spaun stayed in third place, winning an additional $2.6 million. Justin Rose, the St. Jude winner, is fourth in the standings, and won a $1.8 million bonus. Tommy Fleetwood jumped three spots to fifth in the standings, earning a $1.45 million bonus.

MacIntyre’s second-place finish moved him up 11 spots in the playoff standings, to 9th, giving him a bonus of $550,000 for his spot in the standings through two playoff tournaments. Ben Griffin ($900,000), Russell Henley ($700,000), Sepp Straka ($585,000) and McNealy ($515,000) also secured bonuses for being in the top 10 in the FedEx Cup standings after the BMW.

The FedEx Cup Playoffs Wrap Up Next Week at the Tour Championship in Atlanta With $40 Million on the Line

The 2025 FedEx Cup playoffs will finish at the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. It will be played August 21 through August 24. The top 30 players in the playoff standings will compete in the tournament with a massive record-setting purse of $40 million on the line.

The tournament format will change for the 2025 event. The starting strokes format, where players would start with strokes based on their position in the playoff standings, has been eliminated. All 30 players will start at even par and the Tour Championship winner will be the FedEx Cup champion.

The winner will take home $10 million in prize money. Second place will win $5 million and third place will win $3.71 million. Every player will take home a big payday at East Lake, with the 30th place finisher winning $355,000.

Akshay Bhatia, Chris Gotterup, Sunjae Im, Jacob Bridgeman and Harry Hall (who jumped 19 places), clung to the final five spots in the playoff standings to make it to Atlanta and the season finale. Michael Kim, Rickie Fowler, Taylor Pendrith, Matt Fitzpatrick and Kurt Kitayama were among those on the bubble who were eliminated.

Along with the top 10 players in the standings mentioned earlier, and the final five above, the Tour Championship field will include Harris English, Justin Thomas, Cameron Young, Ludvig Aberg, Andrew Novak, Keegan Bradley, Sam Burns, Brian Harman, Corey Conners, Patrick Cantlay, Collin Morikawa, Viktor Hovland, Hideki Matsuyama, Shane Lowry and Nick Taylor.

All 30 players will have a shot at the record-breaking $10 million top prize.

The BMW Championship Also Settled the Automatic Qualifiers for the American Ryder Cup Team

The BMW Championship was also a big day for the American Ryder Cup team, with Scheffler, Harris English, Xander Schauffele, Russell Henley and LIV Golf’s Bryson DeChambeau securing their spots on the team as automatic qualifiers. Captain Keegan Bradley will pick the final six players after the Tour Championship.

The automatic qualifiers for the European team will be decided after the British Masters next week, the final tournament on the DP World Tour where qualifying points can be earned. Captain Luke Donald will then pick the final six players. The current top six for Europe includes McIlroy, Rose, Fleetwood, MacIntyre, Tyrrell Hatton and Straka, with Shane Lowry, Rasmus Hojgaard, Aberg and Hovland in the top 10.

The Ryder Cup will be played at Bethpage Black in New York from September 26 to September 28.
