Pittsburgh is acquiring infielder Jacob Gonzalez and reliever Brandon Eisert from Chicago in exchange for the 34th-overall pick in the draft and reliever Jaden Woods, the teams announced Friday.
Gonzalez, 24, was a first-round pick of the White Sox in 2023 and made his MLB debut earlier this season. The left-handed hitter was optioned back to triple-A earlier Friday to make room for Munetaka Murakami’s return.
He played in 30 games during his first taste of the majors, slashing .244/.323/.360 with two homers and 17 RBIs.
Eisert, meanwhile, owns a 5.93 ERA and 32 strikeouts in 27.1 innings on the season.
The 28-year-old lefty broke into the big leagues with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2024.
In return, the White Sox add a competitive balance pick from Pittsburgh — the only draft picks that can be traded under MLB’s current CBA — and Woods.
Woods has spent the entire season in the minors, posting a 4.84 ERA over 35.1 combined innings between double- and triple-A.
