Montreal’s light-rail network is shuttered after planned maintenance work overnight is taking longer than expected and it’s unclear when service will resume.
Work on the REM was expected to cause late openings this weekend, with service expected to begin at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, and noon on Sunday.
But as of 9:30 a.m. the trains across the entire network remain out of service due to work carried out by an external partner, REM operator Pulsar said in a statement to CBC.
“As announced several weeks ago, delayed network openings are planned between June 6 and August 16 on weekends. These delayed openings remain in effect this morning due to work carried out overnight by an external partner,” REM operator Pulsar wrote in a statement to CBC.
Pulsar added that work is necessary before service can be restored across the network.
Pulsar says it is monitoring the situation closely to ensure service can return to normal as soon as possible. Until then, shuttle services will be offered as an alternative to users.
