The Montreal Canadiens are not just targeting Anthony Mantha, they reportedly appear ready to make a move.
However, the offer being considered comes with a clear limitation.
According to Marc-Olivier Beaudoin, the club would be willing to present only a very short-term deal, nothing more.
Kent Hughes would therefore be prepared to offer Anthony Mantha an attractive contract, but only a very short-term one.
The forward, however, is looking for something different.
Mantha is seeking a medium- or long-term commitment, creating a significant gap between the two sides.
It’s easy to understand why Montreal remains interested despite that.
At 31 years old, Mantha is coming off a season in which he scored 33 goals and recorded 64 points in 81 games, along with a +10 rating.
The Canadiens are familiar with this type of negotiation.
They previously offered Jonathan Marchessault a short-term contract that came with a generous average annual salary.

Beaudoin was clear about what the Canadiens are prepared to offer.
“However, the idea would be a willingness to partner on a very short-term basis, while Mantha is looking for a medium- or long-term contract.”
