Witnesses sought in South Surrey bear-spray assault

Surrey Police Service is appealing for help identifying culprits in an assault involving youth and bear spray in South Surrey.
According to a news release issued Thursday (July 9), the incident occurred at around 4 p.m. on May 31, outside The Shops at Morgan Crossing location of Menchies Frozen Yogurt (15775 Croydon Dr.).
Police say a male youth was sitting on a bench when he was approached by two unknown male youth. One sprayed the unsuspecting teen with bear spray, while the second recorded the incident on a cellphone.
The suspect who deployed the spray is described as a five-foot-four white male in his teens with shaggy brown hair, wearing a light hoodie, red shirt, black shorts, black shoes and a cross-body bag. The youth may have been pushed around in a blue shopping cart, the news release adds.
The suspect who filmed the incident is described as a five-foot-six Middle Eastern male in his teens with short black curly hair. His right hand was wrapped in medical tape, and he was wearing a black T-shirt with white designs, black pants with large white designs, white shoes, and a cross-body bag.
SPS has spoken with the victim, and shared his description in the hopes of triggering the memory of any witnesses: he is described as a five-foot-six Middle Eastern teen with black curly hair, who was wearing a black hoodie, light blue jeans and black clog-style shoes at the time of the assault.
