Get ready for more road closures and traffic delays as Metro Vancouver continues constructing the Annacis Water Main South project in Surrey and North Delta.
The project is approximately three km in length and it will run from River Road to 90 Avenue.
The project has also been divided into three phases, with the first phase completed in 2022 and the remaining phases expected to be completed by 2028.
The current second phase of the project will involve constructing three valve and flow meter chambers and a water main from River Road to 117B Street in Surrey.
A recent update outlined traffic impacts including, among other things, a full closure of River Road from south of Millar Road to north of Juniper Place until October.
Meantime, 96 Avenue will be closed again until early August, but 117B Street will remain open.
A Scott Road section is the third phase, with construction scheduled to take place this summer.
It will include the construction of two flow meter chambers and a water main along 119B Street, Scott Road (120 Street) and Holt Road in Surrey and Delta.
One chamber will be located at the intersection of 93A Avenue and Scott Road, and the other at Holt Road and 90 Avenue.
Metro explains the new water main will be installed in segments.
That work will include setting up a 200-metre work zone, excavating a large trench, placing wall supports, installing steel pipes with a diameter of 1.8 metres and temporarily restoring the impacted roadway before moving to the next segment.
Metro notes that as part of its commitment to minimize impacts, the region will work with the cities of Surrey and Delta to identify impacts early and take measures to prevent or reduce them.
