Days after the Edmonton region was slammed by a summer storm, Environment Canada issued a watch Tuesday for severe thunderstorms that include a risk of a tornado.
In an afternoon press release, Environment Canada stated conditions were favourable for thunderstorms that could produce strong winds, hail, rain and tornadoes to develop in the Rocky Mountain House and Edson regions. The storms were expected to move into central Alberta, reaching Edmonton in the evening.
The department warned that damage to roofs and trees could be possible. If you find yourself caught in severe weather, find cover in a basement or interior room; if you’re outside, seek shelter immediately. The release also cautioned motorists not to drive through flooded roads, a hazard some Edmontonians experienced over the weekend.
