A 42-year-old Winnipeg man has died after he was shot by a Winnipeg Police Service officer during a family trouble call in the Linden Woods neighbourhood Sunday night.
According to the Winnipeg Police Service, officers were called to a home on Avon Gate after receiving two calls from a man who said his adult brother had locked him out of their shared residence.
Police said the first call came in at about 8:42 p.m. on July 13. The caller reported concerning behaviour by his brother and said he had been locked out of the home.
The caller contacted police again at 9:58 p.m., reporting that his brother remained inside the residence and was screaming at him through a window.
A West District General Patrol unit arrived at about 10:23 p.m.

Officer-involved shooting under investigation
Police said that at about 10:35 p.m., officers were confronted by the 42-year-old man, who exited the home armed with an edged weapon.
A use-of-force encounter followed, during which an officer discharged a service firearm, critically injuring the man, police said.
Officers immediately provided emergency medical care, and a neighbour also assisted before Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews transported the man to hospital. He later died from his injuries, according to police.
The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba said the Winnipeg Police Service notified the civilian oversight agency on July 14. The IIU said the original caller told police his brother had mental health issues and was not taking prescribed medication. The agency said the man was taken to Health Sciences Centre Winnipeg, where he was pronounced dead. The IIU is now leading the investigation, as required whenever an officer-involved shooting results in death.
IIU seeks witnesses
The IIU is asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has video footage that could assist investigators to contact the agency toll-free at 1-844-667-6060.
The investigation remains ongoing, and the IIU said no further information will be released at this time.
