It was a sad day for us and many in Vancouver when Gringo announced that it would be following in the footsteps of Matchstick and closing all of its locations back in March.

“Due to ongoing challenges, it is with heavy hearts that Gringo Restaurants has made the difficult decision to dramatically downsize & decrease its operations,” wrote the taco shop on Instagram at the time.

However, the team has since shared that its Gastown location, a.k.a. the iconic Blood Alley outpost, has reopened.

“To our wonderful community: Welcome back to Gringo Gastown,” wrote the team. “Come and say hi to your favorite people, but most importantly to the new family member!!”

Gringo describes itself as a “white-trash cantina meets all-inclusive resort” and is best known for its selection of tacos, burritos, and literal buckets of booze (and no, we’re not exaggerating when we say buckets).

Many took to the comments of the announcement post to share how excited they were for Gringo’s return.

“I needed some good news, hot damn,” said one person on Instagram.

“No way, let’s gooooooo 🔥,” added another.

“The universe is healing,” shared a third.

Gringo Gastown officially reopened its doors on July 16 at 5 p.m.

Address: 27 Blood Alley Sq., Vancouver
