A yellow watch for thunderstorms has been issued by Environment Canada for Ottawa as of 12:37 p.m. on Saturday, July 18.

It says conditions are “favourable” for thunderstorm conditions which can produce strong wind gusts up to 110 km/h, quarter-sized hail and heavy rain amounting to 30 to 50 mm. There is also risk of a tornado.

Thunderstorms are expected to develop and move across the area this afternoon and into the early evening. Driving conditions may worsen and power outages could occur.

Emergency Management Ontario recommends taking cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
